Hair Idea No.1

For the catwalk look, the hair design was a little bit more difficult to create. I wanted to create something that was reflecting the season's trend but at the same time it had to suit the entire look.I wanted to incorporate braids, sleek hair and volume at the same time, all in one hairstyle. I thought that if it would represent the punk style, I would achieve the exact look I wanted. So, I tried my first idea on the doll head, because I find it easier to understand it when I actually create the look and see it properly than creating the hair chart. This way I also practice more the hair skills and can also time myself to see how long it takes me to create that look I have in mind.  I have started with the sleek sides that at the beginning I wanted them to be small french plaits going towards the back of the head. I have left the top section of hair to create the big volume I was looking for to achieve. As the french plaits are something that we often see in different hairstyles I went for something slightly different which in this case were small twists that give the impression of plaited hair. Once I made two small twists on each side, I started to work on the front part. I started with back combing the hair in a drastic way because this would give more texture and I would achieve easier that messy and full of volume look. Once I have back combed all that section I started with styling it and directioning it in the way I wanted. I didn't know what to do with all the remaining hair at the back, once I have arrived at this point. So, continuing to play around I made a french plait with it.

This was my first idea of the hair design, which honestly, I wasn't very proud of. In my point of view it didn't come out as nice as I actually imagined it. It might be because my doll's hair is short, but instead of blaming my disappointment on other thing I have to blame myself. the reason Why the final hair look is not nice in my point of view is because it looks too simple. The sleek hair on side and the quiff on the top of the head is something very basic and it doesn't represent any originality. I also think that it would look much better on a lighter hair. So, my first attempt wasn't as successful.

P.S.   For the twists i was inspired from the hair designed for the Valentino catwalk show. I love that hairstyle, and I thought to use the idea of the twists in my own design, but obviously in a different hairstyle.
